My first day of school was in 1985, and I’ve looked forward to the first day of school ever since. Over twenty years working as an English language arts teacher, school librarian, instructional coach, and university instructor have helped me better understand the joys, sorrows, and potential of public schools, and every day I learn more.
My teaching, librarianship, and research have focused on critical literacy, teacher identities, intellectual freedom, and curriculum development, and I have been honored by the American Association of School Librarians, the University of Iowa College of Education, and the Iowa Academy of Education. I have published in Journal of Curriculum Studies, School Libraries Worldwide, Intellectual Freedom Blog, Knowledge Quest, and Bloomsbury Handbook of Reading Practices & Perspectives.
Above all, I am committed to being part of broad, multiracial coalitions in pursue of educational justice and humane schooling in my local, state, and national communities. Please reach out if you’d like to collaborate.
